KM2463 Intermission (still life, ballet, toe shoes)
At Brushstrokes Studio Gallery here in Denver, we are planning a show called "Identity Theft" where each of the 3 of us paints the other's specialty. I drew my partner Anita, so will be doing a show of still life and roosters. Here is my first still life of one of my favorite things.......pink ballet toe shoes. Oh how I would love to be able to have one dance, full of grace and poise but think that at my stage of life I best stick to painting the objects of my affection.

KMD2464 Curious (nature, cows, cattle, animals)
There is something so heartwarming about a cow's gentle gaze. I'm sure that ranchers would think I am romanticizing these wonderful creatures but what can I say? I am a city girl and far removed from the ranch life. I am just an artist who loves to paint all living creatures.

Spring Snow Acrylic 7 x 5 Denver Urban Landscape

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H
We had a big spring snow storm in Denver yesterday and I had to get out in it. This was downtown on the 16th Street Mall. The snow was so heavy that people were using umbrellas to keep the snow off of them. Made for a great painting!

This is a painting I have finished to put in the 19th Annual 2010 Governor's Invitational Art Show & Sale at the Loveland Museum in Loveland, Colorado. The show opening reception is April 24. It is always an honor to be invited to this prestigious show.

KMD2462 Fall's Rich Colors (fall, colorful, landscape, nature)
I am working on a commission of an Aspen scene and my client loved the colors in this particular piece so I thought it would be fun to do this as a daily painting. I am so passionate for our Colorado fall colors that I can't imagine surviving the New England colors!

A Paris Connection Acrylic 6 x 6 Urban Paris Impressionist Landscape

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H
I was in Paris spending the day taking pictures of anything that caught my eye. Well its safe to say most everything in Paris caught my eye. This is a street scene near the theater district. I really enjoyed the vibrant red awnings against the pale color of the buildings.

Tuscan View Acrylic 6 x 6 Italian Impressionistic Landscape

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H
I am giving myself a challenge with my Daily Painting work. I filled a box full of source material pictures with many different subject matters. I am going to just reach into the box each day and whatever I pull out is what I am painting that day. I think of it as sort of my Daily Painting Grab Bag. So if it seems like there isn't a consistency of subject matter that is the reason. I am doing this to train me to see a composition for a painting in every photograph regardless of subject matter. I'm always looking for a new ways to push my artistic endeavors.

KMD2460 Red Crested Cardinal ( bird, nature, wildlife)
While having lunch at the Contemporary Art Museum in Honolulu we were visited by these colorful birds who entertained us throughout our idealic lunch out on the lawn in the fragrant Hawaiian air. This is a Red Crested Cardinal which is fairly common in Honolulu. Also known as the Brazilian Cardinal, it was introduced around 1930 from South America. It feeds on seeds, plant matter, insects and fruit and anything from an artists luncheon!

KMD2457 Peaceful Valley (landscape, mountains, summer)
It was amazing to be driving into this valley near Ohio Pass in Colorado last summer. We were in and out of magnificent fast moving storms, so much hail that we would have to pull off the road to wait them out and then the sun would come out leaving pictures like this one.

KMD2456 Vibrant Splendor by Kit Hevron Mahoney (landscape, contemporary, oil)
I haven't been posting for awhile. It seems all the daily paintings I have done lately are not up to my standards hence I didn't post, perhaps an "artist block" or being very busy with lots of activity at the studio these days. Anyway I really was pleased with the abstract quality of this piece. I was drawn to the brilliant colors of the foreground and have expressed this as a "colorist" in my rendering.

City Reds Acrylic 6 x 6 Urban Impressionistic Landscape

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H
I couldn't believe how red these trees were. I have seen the aspens turn color in Colorado but to have these fiery colors in the city just stopped me in my tracks.
It was fun to use this bright red as the focus in a landscape painting. Enjoy!

On Time Acrylic 7 x 5 Impressionistic Urban Landscape of Denver

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H
The shuttle bus was coming up the street and everyone around me was waiting to hop on. The comments by the waiting pedestrians were centered around their joy that the shuttle was on time so they could get out of the chilly rain. I of course didn't board the bus because I love every minute of being in the rain. We don't have it that often here so I consider it a treat when we do.

KMD2450 Red Hot Hibiscus by Kit Hevron Mahoney (floral, Hibiscus, flower)
It's hard to resist the brilliant red Hibiscus flower to photograph and paint. I treasure this flower that grows so abundantly in the tropics as it colors the world for only a day before passing the torch to the next bud.
