This study is on a piece of the Canson board/paper with an oil wash of TOR over a coat of sand pumice gel....make sense? It did provide an interesting texture to work on.

With winter holding on so tight here in Colorado I am taking myself away by reliving my week in Hawaii on canvas! This latest trip reminded me of how glorious the tropical climates are for all the senses. Hope this painting takes you away to paradise somewhere for a few minutes as well!

I have been challenged by my studio mates Kit and Anita to paint something totally outside of the box from what I traditionally paint. That would be still life subjects. I grew up drawing and painting still life's with my Father and Grandmother but haven't shown much interest in them as a professional. I have to admit that I had fun with today's painting.

This is one of the many that this Small Works Great Wonders adventure allows me to put on canvas. This scene is on a walk near our mountain place that I take every time I visit. Back in Colorado after 6 glorious days of painting in Hawaii on the island of Oahu with a group of artists from Denver. This event was hosted by Linda VG Kelly who provided the most incredible paint out providing us with glorious spots to paint, 2 art shows and a wonderful cocktail party at her home on Oahu. She is a generous and gracious hostess giving us a most memorable experience.
This is one of my paintings done on the grounds of the Contemporary Art Museum of Honolulu. I fell in love with the Monkey Pod trees with their massive winding trunks and branches. It was heaven to paint in sunshine, with gentle breezes and no interruptions except the birds singing to us.

Painting again in my own back yard. I love to travel but there is so much to explore in Denver and I know that finding something new to paint will not be a problem.This painting is of the 16th Street Mall. When it rains here I am down there in a flash with my camera. It's the only place I have found that people walk with their umbrellas and I can catch their reflections. With all the shimmering life of the lights this painting just glows.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the collectors who bought paintings week before last who helped raise $1500.00 for Haiti. I sold a total of 15 paintings and have donated all of the proceeds to the American Red Cross. I could not have accomplished this on my own. The people of Haiti and myself really appreciate all the support of my generous collectors.

For the next few weeks I thought I would do paintings from some of my travels. This week I will concentrate on Mexico. I have vacationed many times in that beautiful country and love the people and its culture immensely. Today's daily painting is from the beaches of Puerta Vallarta. The sand and surf are beautiful and this outdoor cafe on the beach was empty for the time being but the impact of the scenery wasn't. Enjoy!

Each day that I set out to do my Daily Paintings (ok, every 3 days!) it's fun to see what inspires me. I love how the dailies allow me to jump all around in my smorgasboard of painting reference to see which excites me each day! I think the less colorful months of Jan/Feb lead me to the more colorful warm and bright colors of spring.
