KMD2443 Autumn on the River by Kit Hevron Mahoney (autumn landscape original oil painting)

This is an amazing fall scene here in Colorado near our family property of almost 60 years now that I have been so fortunate to have been born into. I have taken the walk upriver every time I am there in every season and never tire of the new colors, smells and new growth I discover.

Bulls Eye Acrylic 5 x 7 Original Acrylic Antique Truck Landscape

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H
This week I will be donating the proceeds of any of my daily painting sales to the Red Cross for the Haitian People. Using my talent and your generosity to make conditions better in Haiti is a fantastic collaboration. Hopefully, adding one of my daily paintings to your art collection will bring joy to you and the people of Haiti.

Sold Two more today. Thank you collectors! So the Haiti fund is up to $800.00. This is so exciting!

When I first started painting urban scenes I didn't like painting cars or trucks. Boy, have times changed. I get a big kick out of it now. I don't pretend to know the make and models of what I am painting but am attracted to their personality on the canvas. This truck was in a field in Boulder Colorado nestled in the tall grass and lilac bushes.

This snowy street scene was on Sherman Street looking towards the capital building. The pedestrian was waiting for his ride to pick him up. I was wishing I had a ride about that time too.

KMD2442 Garden of Glory by Kit Hevron Mahoney (floral, garden, oil painting)

How I am longing for some warmer weather and sunshine. The best way to do that is to look through my spring reference material and my most favorite garden that I paint over and over. This garden, here in Denver is wild, vibrant and full of life and color which I hope to translate onto the canvas.

The time spent next to a crystal clear stream like this one near Steamboat Colorado is time well spent. Nothing is more beautiful than how the light dances on the water as it winds its way down the mountain.

Today's painting was from a outing I had not to long ago to meet friends for dinner. It was a snowy night and people were huddling together to stay warm while waiting for the shuttle.

KMD2440 Natures Gift by Kit Hevron Mahoney (landscape, fall, autumn)

I have always been fascinated by what Nature provides to us artists. I was drawn to this more abstracted scene on one of my daily walks with my dog Farley. We live near the High Line Canal here in Denver, which was conceived in 1870 by early Colorado resident James Duff, who sought to turn eastern Denver into profitable farming land. It was originally 74 miles long. It is rarely used now but there are some amazing pictures from it when it is running. The reflected foliage colors in spring and fall inspire many abstracted scenes for me.

Chilly Reflections Acrylic 6 x 6 urban landscape painting

Sometimes when its winter its just warm enough to have a rain/snow mix. So even on those days I'm out getting sources to paint from. There was enough water on the street to through a reflection of this warmly dressed lady so I just had to paint it.

KMD2439 Manifest Destiny by Kit Hevron Mahoney (sunset, ocean, Hawaii

It is fun to dream of turquoise waters, beaches and warm salt air in our cold Colorado January! So I paint (this one with a palette knife) and dream of far away places and behold, I find I will be in Hawaii next month for an event in Honolulu: Artists Hawaii 2010. I will be going with my business partner Anita Mosher to paint on location with several other artists for the show: Artists Hawaii 2010 Reception & Art Show at Outrigger Reef Hotel on Feb 16.
I am so excited to be participating in this venture.

KMD2438 Beach Play

How could I resist the innocence of children playing on the beach? My friend Pat gave me this photo from one of her many trips to Hawaii. It makes me feel happy when putting to canvas the joy of a day on the beach, with no worries but the waves!

This time of year I day dream of being somewhere by the beach soaking in the sun and breathing the sea air. I thought that painting something like that would make it more than just a day dream. Hopefully, it will spark a real day dream of your own.

KMD2437 Azure Dreams ( seascape, ocean oil painting)

This painting was painted in order to donate 100% of the proceeds of this sale to the charity of choice for the Haiti Disaster.
Watching the daily news of the horrendous aftermath of the Haiti earthquake has left me feeling very useless. Then I realized that the best way to utilize my talents would be to paint this beautiful Hawaiian scene given to me by my great friend Pat. When you pay with Paypal just make a note of the charity you want the donation given to and I will give the donation in your name.

KMD2436 Gentle Gaze (animal, cow, calf)

I had to go all the way to China to find this fellow! He was in the courtyard of a villager in a small village outside of LiJiang. The whole family was working doing many daily chores like chopping wood, processing grains, feeding their cows and chickens. They were kind enough to allow us into their "backyard" to share a bit of their lives with us.

Business Casual Acrylic 6 x 6 original urban painting

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

Today I am finally back into my daily painting routine. I started today trying to go a bit abstract in this interpretation of a business man returning to the office. It was a very blustery wet day and he was a bit out of his element with no coat but his umbrella was a good substitute.

KMD2435 Glorious Autumn (Fall Landscape)

For this year's paintings I am going thru all my zillions of picture files and finding pictures to paint that have been on my list for years. My subject matter will probably jump all over the place which is going to be fun.
Fall in Colorado is so glorious with the changing colors of our Aspen trees. This scene is on Ohio Pass near Crested Butte a few years ago when we had a spectacular fall.

Flash Acrylic 5 x 7 original impressionist painting

Flash is a Basset Hound. A good friend of the owners commissioned me to paint this portrait of him. He was up there in years but the owner thought this was indicative of his personality.
My uncle had a Basset Hound when I was kid and all I can remember about him was his ears dragging on the floor and his tail making a lot of noise when he would wag it and hit the floor.
They are such characters and interesting subjects for a painting.

KMD2434 Heavy Load (cityscape, urban, landscape, animal and figurative original oil)

I'm back to China again as there are so many incredible scenes I found there. This man was walking and guiding his oxen with a heavy load (no wonder we call them "Beasts of Burden".) The oxen was carrying a heavy load in the streets of a small village outside of LiJiang where village commerce is a mixed bag of bicycles, pedestrians, small vehicles, women carrying heavy loads on thier backs and oxen carrying the largest loads. This was a pretty impoverished village by our standards but a way of life for them.

#21 of the "100 prtrait challenge"

Saturday, January 9, 2010
I was able to get in the studio for a bit today to work on a few projects.... The remodeling on the studio has been exciting to watch!
I had ordered a few large pastel boards ( Cansen paper mounted on some type of illustration board) for some larger pastels but noticed they had mounted the rough side up....I usually work on the smoother side of Cansen. I decided to experiment a bit by appying some light water washes over some of my foundation colors...I was surprised to see it that it worked and didn't buckle the paper.

KMD2433 Regal (wildlife, cats, nature, landscape)

I am returning after a few weeks off from painting and regrouping for the great New Year ahead.
I was inspired to create this painting by my studio partner John K. Harrell who just completed a commissioned series of African animals. As he was working on his incredible paintings my friend Pat suggested we go to the Denver Zoo to see some baby animals she had seen on the news. We came upon this majestic cat who holds her head high.

Sisi and Thomas Acrylic 8 x 10 original pet portrait

SOLD

These two beautiful creatures really know how to pose! Sisi and Thomas were wonderful subjects for a painting. Pet portraits are fast becoming one of my favorite subjects for my work.
I have had sort of a hiatus from my daily paintings because of my commission schedule but plan to get back to it starting now. I will be posting some of the commission images in the next few postings.

I'm Sittin' On Top of the World

While thinking of a title for this one and this song just came to me.

I'm sitting on top of the world,
Just rolling along, just rolling along.
I'm quitting the blues of the world,
Just singing a song, just singing a song.

I think sitting on top of the world it's a great way to start the year out!
