Grandfather Tree - June 28.09

Same tree - next night. This time I wasn't quite in a rush before it became dark so I took a little more time. Interesting how the light affected the colors, as soon as I set up outside I noticed there was more of a yellow cast to everything. The previous night had more blues in it - probably from the rains we had earlier in the day.

I love this tree, I now have a collection of 6 paintings of it. As you can tell I am quite fond of them. I see them as faithful and protective friends.

KMD2364 Fall En Bruges by Kit Hevron Mahoney

I haven't posted in a few days as I have been busy working on a big installation, along with my Brushstrokes partners, John and Anita. It is for the Trailhead Lodge of Wildhorse Meadows in Steamboat Springs here in Colorado.
Meanwhile, to address this daily paintings I just finished this one of a scene from Bruges, Belgium. I was there with my friend Pat in the fall and it was glorious. It is one of my favorite spots in Europe.

Walking in the rain huddled under the protection of an umbrella can bring one closer to his inner thoughts. This introspection can be wonderfully insightful and refreshing when there is the comforting blanket of the misty rain to accompany you.

I don't get to paint very many things that are yellow, but when I do I just love it. This umbrella was the same color as one of my acrylic paints. The name of that paint is Dairylide Yellow. So being the brilliant writer that I am..lol I named the painting Dairy Yellow.

KMD2362 Springtime in the Rockies by Kit Hevron Mahoney

The Wild Iris in June are something to behold here in Colorado. This pastoral scene is in South Park, Colorado, a vast valley surrounded by majestic mountains. Summer brings some incredible skies when the afternoon storms roll in but this setting was in the morning before the clouds rolled in.

Spring, my very most favorite time of year to wander and meander with a camera in hand. These iris were found on an early morning walk with my dog Farley. He finds my stopping every two feet to photograph a scene as irritating as I do when he does the same to check his P-Mail!!!

Denver can be so elegantly urban. When I paint a scene like this one of Denver I always get comments that express how much it looks like Paris or New York. It's kind of fun to shock viewers with this cow town's personality.

KMD2360 What a Perfect Morning

The title of this painting is a description of how I felt a few weeks ago while wandering on a cool, crisp spring morning. I have gone to to this street every spring for years and it is like stepping into the country side as most of the homes are on several wooded acres. This scene is one of the few that is the same every year when I return. It was this bright in the morning light!

Heavenly Lavender Acrylic 7 x 5

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

When I traveled to the South of France I was captivated by the lavender fields and the use of lavender in the french culture. They use lavender for soap, fragrances, and candy. You name it they make it with lavender. So when I came upon this scene just out side of a town called Saint Remy I was very taken by its serenity and beauty. I hope you are too!

KMD2359 Bright as Spring by Kit Hevron Mahoney

This composition just spoke to me as I was perusing my photo reference for today's painting. The Black Eyed Susan seems like such a cheery flower and this scene was such a wonderful contrast of the delicate daily like flowers with the hardy sunflower.

KMD2358 Bountiful Spring by Kit Hevron Mahoney

I found this scene a few weeks ago while driving home from doing a plein air painting at Washington Park. It has been awhile since I have painted outside and what a perfect morning it was. The temperature was just right, the skies were blue and everything looked and smelled so fresh. Perfect champagne days, as my mother called them, have been rare this spring here in Colorado with a plethora of thunderstorms. I am not complaining however as I have never seen it so green and lush.

These beautiful dreamers have been taking up residence in my bedroom. Making for sweet dreams. My favorite flowers - okay one of them - renunculas. The colors in this one bring a vintage quality to it. And I love the brushwork with lots of texture and movement.
