KM2354 Spring Path by Kit Hevron Mahoney

This is one of my favorite scenes from a trip to the Cotswolds several years ago. I would never have found this area if wasn't for my great and adventurous friend Pat, who searched this area out in England and insisted we go there. What a feast of century old villages and gardens in every direction.

Conductor's Stance Acrylic 7 x 5

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

A friend of mine let me go through a plethora of his photographs for painting inspiration. I found many wonderful subjects to paint but have no reference of time and place and simply chose them because they caught my eye. So in this one I imagined that the train was about to leave and the Conductor was shouting "all aboard" A very somewhere in time moment.

Thunder One and Two

"Thunder One"_____8 x 10 oil on linen panel____$450 in a great frame
I painted this one before I left and have had trouble posting...It's hanging with me here at the Phippen Show in Prescott, AZ. Yesterday and today, many of us artists did what is called a "Quick Draw" : we get 45 minutes to create a masterpiece, 15 minutes to frame it then we auction the works to the adoring onlookers :) I used the smaller painting (above) to create this large one, below. It is my biggest Quick Draw ever, at 16 x 20, and sold to a nice couple from Scottsdale. THANK YOU, Dan and Katherine!
This 8 x 10 is still available, but there is one more day for this show....

KMD2351 Poppies and Iris by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Spring is so in the air now. Denver is greener than I remember in a long time. This painting is from a reference at the Denver Botanic Gardens which I have visited recently and it is such a gift to our city. It has every kind of plant and flower imaginable with such a variety of wonderful settings to wander and enjoy.
With Memorial Day Weekend upon us I will not be posting for a few days as we have the 30th Annual South Gaylord St. Festival happening Sat thru Monday. I will be very occupied with my studio partners as we show our art to the huge crowds that will be attending.

Wow, I have heard about Blue Bonnets from my Texas relatives my whole life but until just recently had never personally experienced the spectacular phenomenon. They also tell me they are hit and miss as far as brilliance and numbers but, I fortunately hit the jack pot on this day. Cheers to the Texas Blue Bonnets!

KMD2350 Walking into Fall by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Even though it is spring, my most favorite time of the year, I was compelled to paint this fall scene found here in Colorado on a trail in the Maroon Bells Wilderness area. Of course, fall comes second to the seasons I love most here in Colorado. The colors in this scene were absolutely stunning with such a variety of reds, yellows, burnt oranges and yellow greens.

Anybody that knows me knows I am all city but something about cows makes me want to paint them. It must be their gentle energy and simple expressions. Regardless I appreciate the opportunity to catch their essence on canvas.

Swine Barrel

Friday, May 15th, 2009
The May Painting Challenge was a "Pig Party"...I had several things in mind for this project but decided on this little resin figurine from the "Peter Porky Trotter series" by Leonardo. It was one of those things you never knew you had until you move....and what a great time to find it!

KMD2346 Spring at Last

Another painting inspired from my recent trip to Taos. We visited the Mabel Dodge Luhan House where I found this wonderful scene. This is a mystical place where Georgia O’Keeffe, D.H. Lawrence, Ansel Adams, Martha Graham and Carl Jung, among many other notables stayed in thier day. It is now an historic inn and conference center.

KMD2343 Spring in Taos by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Last week I went to Taos with 6 of my old college buddies. What a hoot and a howl we had together. Spring had just begun there and it was so fresh and full of new life with all the crabapples and lilacs blooming. I forgot how much fun Taos is and how beautiful the area is, with all the adobe bathed in the New Mexico light. It is fun to have a new subject matter to focus upon!
