KMD2303 Just Waiting

I have had this photo reference for many years; pre-digital! It is from a trip taken to Taos, New Mexico years ago. I have of course been there many times since and am excited that I will be going back in April to reunite with some old college buddies.
I was drawn to the blues in the mailboxes contrasted with the earthy fall colors behind them. They almost seem alive waiting in anticipation for the mail carrier.

Water Balloons Acrylic 6 x 6

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

Summer fun in the water can be intoxicating to any body especially when kids and water balloons are in the mix. This little girl was having so much fun I couldn't help myself from smiling and remembering my own childhood experiences with water balloons.

KMD2302 Growing Wild and Free

It is fun to think of new ways to look at and paint flowers. This painting I chose to be up close and personal with these brilliant, cheerful California poppies. I found them growing among some grasses here in Denver at our wonderful Botanic Gardens. These poppies always uplift me with there seemingly carefree attitude!

KMD2301 Profusion in Sunlight

This painting was inspired by the dappled light and the beautiful pot holding all the colorful flowers. This scene was found in the Tuscan region of Italy.

Le Beau France Acrylic 6 x 6

This archway was the entrance to a walled area of Le Beau. Inside was a very old mill for grinding wheat into flour. It was just amazing to see such antiquity.

KMD2300 Perfect Fall Day

The fall colors are so rich and warm and inviting that it is fun to paint scenes with all the warm colors. As always, I love a road or path in my paintings leading the viewer to wonder what lies beyond.

KMD2299 Strolling Aix en Provence

Wandering through my many photos I came upon this happy memory of walking in Aix while visiting Provence with great friends. It was such a perfect day with the sun on our shoulders but did have a panic when we forgot where we parked the car so we wandered many more streets and lanes than we had anticipated!

I find the everyday moments very intriguing to paint. This lovely lady was about to depart on a bike ride in the small town Saint Remy. Her continence was so gentle and and relaxed. An easy ride and a splendid day.

KMD2298 Silent Bliss

Back to the flowers. I loved how delicate these pink poppies seemed. They are amazing flowers, so delicate yet so resilient. I found these gems at the Denver Botanic Gardens last year and here we are heading fast into yet another spring. I know I am pushing a bit, especially here in Colorado where March can be our snowiest month. I must just be ready for the longer, warmer days!

KMD2296 Waiting for Adventure by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Living near the mountains here in Colorado makes the water and boats such a unique entity. I found these colorful boats were in Italy when visiting with my business partners several years ago. This area, Cinque Terre is on the Mediterranean and every boat is a painting waiting to be created. Boats are a challenge to paint, they have such sensuous lines that they are almost like painting the figure.

KMD0588 Poppies Along the Path

I found this scene on a garden tour here in Denver several years ago. Paths and roads are a favorite to include in my paintings as I love the mystery of wondering where they may lead the observer. Thus, it is my hope that the painting will always keep the viewer engaged and wondering.
