Morning Shadows - Minnesota landscape

Mornings and evenings are the best for light. Of course this is not a new revelation but I do love those times of day when the shadows are long and things are quiet. I loved how in the morning light this tree cast a giant shadow that extended all the way down the hill.

KM2183 Amber Skies-Kit Hevron Mahoney

Had to take a break from the Colorado wildflowers and Crested Butte and journey back to Italy for awhile. This scene was a late afternoon, early evening outside of Assisi, Italy while visiting a few years back. The late day light is so magical and that is my favorite time of day as the world seems to settle into a quiet time where one can hear their thoughts that get lost in the flurry of the day!

OK, THIS PAINTING WAS A CHALLENGE BECAUSE OF THE CIRCLES WHICH HAD TO BE CORRECT OR NOT WORK. YES, I ENJOYED PAINTING THE JAM AND THE TOP TO THE JAM POT BUT THE CIRCLES? NO!
THEY KEPT GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER AND THEN SMALLER AND SMALLER BASED ON THE ORIGINAL DRAWING
OH CIRCLES!

Plein Air New Orleans Acrylic 5 x 7

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

I was watching a Plein Air artist in a open air market in New Orleans. It had started to rain so he stopped painting and I started taking pictures. One has to be fast to capture those reflections before they dry up.

While driving some of the rugged passes outside of Lake City, Colorado we came across an entire flock of sheep, high on the mountainside, still green making for lush grazing. This little guy had a watchful eye on me and my camera!

This scene caused me to come to a screeching halt while driving to Crested Butte as the red and blue violet colors in the flowers were so intense against the blue, blue mountains in the background. Luckily for me and the other drivers there was place to pull off the highway so we could record it in photographs to be interpreted here on canvas!!!!

This scene was found along the highway in to Crested Butte. I love Colorado's deep, rich blue skies especially when contrasted with the bright cumulus clouds. I am always in awe of being in such incredible beauty. Painting that feeling is a real challenge.

The alpine flowers this year are spectacular here in Colorado. I tend to take picture taking trips this time of year to capture a slice of heaven to paint. This one is mighty tasty.

This was painted in Utah but these trees remind me of the cypress trees in Italy so I'm going to pretend. Someday I'll paint the real thing.

There is just something about cows that makes me want to paint them. I think its their energy. They seem as though they don't have a care in the world and when I paint I don't either.

Evening Birch - Plein Air by Deb Kirkeeide

This is another tree in my backyard....well, in my neighbors backyard. I'm trying to more work from life so I painted in the backyard tonight. I was dealing with the light changing faster than I could mix my paint and then got sidetracked with a slight problem in the house. By the time I got back out there the sun had gone behind the distant trees and took the dappled light with it. So I had to finish it from memory.

Charcoal figure drawing from Colorado Academy of Art by artist Michelle Philip

I used to teach at an atelier called the Colorado Academy of Art in Boulder Colorado. The human figure was a large focus at the school, and I drew this figure there in one of their open model sessions. I no longer teach there, but instead teach in my own studio. Anyone interested in studying with me should visit my website www.michellephilip.com for more examples of my work and for class information.

Kelly - pet portrait by Deb Kirkeeide

This is Kelly. Her owner is a volunteer of the English Springer Spaniel rescue league. Her special "cause" is fostering and adopting dogs aged ten and older. She adopted Kelly when she was twelve and had had a stroke. She only expected to have her for six months but ended up having her for 4 1/2 years. I think it is very honorable to take in an older dog, especially one with health issues. She told me it is surprising how many older dogs end up in foster care due to their family dying or going into assisted living. She says there has also been an influx of dogs due to the mortgage crisis.

So if you have it in your heart to adopt a dog, think of one like Kelly.

Twilight in Paris Acrylic 7 x 5

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

This scene was taken on a walk back to my hotel in Paris. There was wonderful live music tickling my ears and delightful smells coming from the abundant little restaurants that lined the street on both sides. This time a day is when magic happens. Lights begin to come on and a whole new energy begins to take over. I love the city life!
