KM2130 Sun and Aspens

I seem to be stuck on paintings from the Crested Butte area. The sun in the aspen trees surrounded by meadows filled with wildflowers is irresistable to me.

KM2129 Dancing in a Dream

I loved the colors in this scene giving a dreamlike quality and feeling. It came from another picture I took of the flowers that rose up after the fire at our mountain cabin here in Colorado in 2000. The strong contrast of the yellow, seemingly dancing sunflowers to the gentle background is what drew me to paint this.

I can just feel the spray from this mounter stream. It's that time again for the streams to be full of the winter melt off. White water abounds!

KM2128 Side Street in Florence

I found this little scene while in Florence, Italy wandering around and peeking into all the side streets which is where I found this little courtyard. What a scene with the sunlit walls, lush growth all around and the sense of wonder of what it is like to live there.

This little floral makes a big statement with its cheery, bright yellow colors and the flowers looking up to the sun, seemingly in a poetic dance. Such a joy to paint!!!!

KM2127 Perched

I am having a great time painting subjects other than landscapes and florals. It is great to expand my horizons and of course anything in the animal world is a passion for me. Birds are such a wonderful part of our world, seemingly so free in flight and and their songs in the spring are like a symphony on my walks.

KM2126 Storm is Brewing

SOLD

I did this painting as a study for a larger piece for Sacred Dancing Gallery where I show in Bigfork, Montana. The scene is outside of Crested Butte on Kebler Pass in July. One of our typical afternoon Colorado storms was moving in and lighting up the hillside light which was contrasted by the ominous, dark gray,blue/violet clouds. I'll be posting the larger one I did on my website next week.

I forgot to photograph this painting before varnishing it, so there is a bit of a sheen on it from the light reflecting off the varnish. Got ahead of myself!!!

KM2125 Vibrant and Elegant

These brilliant tulips were last spring's wonders at the Denver Botanic Gardens in the Alpine garden. Spring brings such incredible colors in its first flowers that are so hardy but delicate looking. They are certainly daring here in Colorado to poke thier heads above the ground with our ever changing weather where we can have 80 degree weather one day and a foot of snow on the ground the next!

KM2124 Fields of Lavender

I am continually working to keep the expression of my paintings simple and loose. It is a challenge not to go too far and get too detailed in my interpretation. Let me know what you think of this one.
This scene was painted from a picture I took in Sequim, Washington where I discovered some wonderful fields of lavender and didn't have to go to Provence!

KM2121 Spring in the Cotswolds

This scene was found while walking around the beautiful town of Chipping Camden in the Cotswolds of England. It seemed that every home we came upon had beautiful, luscious and prolific gardens. The English are wonderful, creative and experienced gardeners providing a wonderland of reference to artists like myself that love painting gardens and flowers.

What scene this was last August while in Waterton, Canada, a little town in the Canadian portion of Glacier National Park. Watching the sun set with a glass of wine in hand sitting in the lodge that overlooked this scene was more than memorable and an absolute treat to paint.

KM2118 Greek Church

I found this scene last May while visiting Greece with my husband Jim. We were hiking one of the hills on the island of Hydra when I turned around and saw this church with the beautiful contrast of the white cross with the blue sky. I also as a painter was drawn to the beautiful textures on the hill in front of the church.

Alive with Yellow by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Spring is in the air here in Denver today. Walking my little dog Farley I can smell the new life in the blossoming trees and see it in the vibrant colors of the daffodils, tulips and and hyacinths that are popping up everywhere! Thus, I had to do another floral to feed my soul!
