KMD2365 Wandering in Rome by Kit Hevron Mahoney

While looking through my photo reference for new ideas to paint I came across this scene that I photographed while visiting Rome. It is so typical of travelers looking at a map trying to figure out where they are while being awestruck by their surroundings. That was certainly me in the magnificent city of Rome. This painting is at the entry of the Roman Forum.

Grandfather Tree - June 28.09

Same tree - next night. This time I wasn't quite in a rush before it became dark so I took a little more time. Interesting how the light affected the colors, as soon as I set up outside I noticed there was more of a yellow cast to everything. The previous night had more blues in it - probably from the rains we had earlier in the day.

I love this tree, I now have a collection of 6 paintings of it. As you can tell I am quite fond of them. I see them as faithful and protective friends.

KMD2360 What a Perfect Morning

The title of this painting is a description of how I felt a few weeks ago while wandering on a cool, crisp spring morning. I have gone to to this street every spring for years and it is like stepping into the country side as most of the homes are on several wooded acres. This scene is one of the few that is the same every year when I return. It was this bright in the morning light!

KMD2358 Bountiful Spring by Kit Hevron Mahoney

I found this scene a few weeks ago while driving home from doing a plein air painting at Washington Park. It has been awhile since I have painted outside and what a perfect morning it was. The temperature was just right, the skies were blue and everything looked and smelled so fresh. Perfect champagne days, as my mother called them, have been rare this spring here in Colorado with a plethora of thunderstorms. I am not complaining however as I have never seen it so green and lush.

I painted this one before I left and have had trouble posting...It's hanging with me here at the Phippen Show in Prescott, AZ. Yesterday and today, many of us artists did what is called a "Quick Draw" : we get 45 minutes to create a masterpiece, 15 minutes to frame it then we auction the works to the adoring onlookers :) I used the smaller painting (above) to create this large one, below. It is my biggest Quick Draw ever, at 16 x 20, and sold to a nice couple from Scottsdale. THANK YOU, Dan and Katherine!
This 8 x 10 is still available, but there is one more day for this show....

Italy Umbrella Acrylic 7 x 5

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

This was in the little town of Cinque Terre Italy. I had just arrived and couldn't take pictures fast enough. The light was spectacular and everything I looked at made me want to throw up my easel and paint on the spot.

KMD2338 Rejoicing by Kit Hevron Mahoney

These poppies caught my attention by the way they appeared to be growing as a bouquet in the garden. They are just reaching to the sun and what brilliance in the sunlight.

KMD2335 Flourishing Spring Bouquet

This was such fun to paint with the bright and vibrant early spring colors. It is all the colors I am now seeing here in Denver. After last weekend's snowfall and melt, everything is coming up colorful and fresh.

ACEO American Red Robin

Thursday, April 23, 2009
This is an original ACEO painting. ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals. They’re collectible miniature paintings that are 2.5" x 3.5". It's a very affordable approach to start and/or add on to your present art collection. These are little "Jewels" when framed and also make excellent gifts

KMD2335 Iris Field by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Yes, you did see this composition the other day, but not this one. This was another study done for my painting class but this one had the original white linen background whereas, the other day it was toned with an orange background. It is fun to see what a difference a background tone makes for the same painting. Each has its own merits.

KMP5018 Daisies on the Fence by Kit Hevron Mahoney

Here is another small spring pastel painting. It feels like spring here now that we had a huge spring snowstorm leaving us lots of much needed moisture! The storm dumped at least of foot of very wet snow here in Denver, which will result in lots of beautiful flowers popping up this week.

KMD2333 North Park Vista by Kit Hevron Mahoney

I am thrilled with this little painting. It was a quick study demo that I did for a painting class I am teaching. I am having such fun with my students as they are so enthusiastic and passionate about learning to express themselves on canvas. Their questions and solutions keep me fresh in my approach to painting. The scene is from North Park Colorado in early July when the wild Iris are brightening up the fields.

Almost Home Acrylic 6 x 6

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

This scene reminds me of my childhood when I was read stories about being all safe and warm in my house when it was cold and chilly outside. I imagined that this car with its passengers were almost home to be comforted the blanket of home life.

I am not musically inclined what so ever and very much appreciate those who are. This man was in his own world while he was playing and it reminded me of myself when I am really into a painting, including this one!

Spring Fresh Acrylic 6 x 6

$100.00 + $10.00 S/H

In our modern times we tend to make our clothes smell spring time fresh by adding fragrance to our washing machines. So how wonderful to get the real deal on this spectacular day with the brilliant sun shine and the fragrant spring flowers. I could just imagine how wonderful it would be to put on a clean shirt touched by mother nature.

Sometimes capturing the mood or feel of a particular scene is more difficult for me than the image itself. I think I succeeded here by capturing his gesture and the crispness of his tuxedo.

KMP5031 Mystic Wonders by Kit Hevron Mahone

KMD2328 Stairs to the Sun by Kit Hevron Mahoney
