What a brilliant sight this garden was. I found it a few summers ago while venturing around the town of Telluride, Colorado. This beautiful mountain town had so many incredible scenes, not only in town with the blooming flowers but surrounding town are high mountains with Aspen trees, Columbine and Indian Paintbrush. This little guy was guarding his path in a small village in Provence. It is a challenge to photograph the dogs I find along my travels as they aren't impressed with my invitation for them to pose. Being such a fanatic dog and cat lover, I never pass up a chance to photograph them and hopefully get a chance to paint them. Doing these small studies gives me that chance.

I am always drawn to paths, roads and stairs leading me to somewhere. This is an ancient stairway found in Italy on one my trips to Tuscany. I love the mystery of what my lie just beyond. The light was so atmospheric the way it lit the steps in the early morning.

Here is another painting inspired from my trip to Greece last year. We stayed in Nafplio on the Pelopennese.
The city of Nafplio was the first capital of the modern Greek state. Named after Nafplios, son of Poseidon, and home of Palamidis, their local hero of the Trojan war and supposedly the inventor of weights and measures, lighthouses, the first Greek alphabet and the father of the Sophists.
There were many colorful boats were anchored in the harbror that I photographed throughout the day as we wandered around town. I knew I wanted to paint this one as soon as I saw it.

While in wandering he narrow streets on the island of Hydra in Greece, school had just let out when I spotted this little girl standing secretly in a pose that leaves the viewer wondering what she is up to. Is she hiding from someone or waiting to surprise another little friend. I want this painting to keep the viewer guessing as to what was happening.

I was in Versailles, France several years ago with some really good friends and I loved this quiet walkway lined with the huge trees to shade the way. It was so pleasant after all the beautiful sights in Paris but I loved the quiet and serenity that this offered. It was early fall making it rich with the colors that were beginning to turn.

I decided to post one that I have painted for my gallery, Brushstrokes, here in Denver. This fresh scene was from a photo taken in July last year outside of Crested Butte when the wildflowers were blooming in abundance. What a scene of fresh, colorful wildflowers on the hillside with our incredible Colorado blue skies. I don't know if it gets any better!
